Castagni d’Oro is a friendly English family-run B&B in a beautiful 17th century house in the pretty hilltop village of Brandeglio, above Bagni di Lucca. The area is famous for rushing rivers and dramatic valleys amid lush green hills and is only an hour from the beaches and Abetone, Tuscany’s largest winter resort. There are two spacious double/twin guest rooms, full of original features and with new en-suite shower rooms, with luxury towels and hair dryers. British TV and radio, tea, coffee and biscuits are provided in the rooms and guests are free to use the sitting room warmed by a big log fire all winter. The sunny terrace with table and chairs is ideal for a cool afternoon drink and the garden with shade and wonderful mountain views is perfect for sunbathing or enjoying an evening barbecue, whilst watching the fire-flies dance and listening to the crickets sing. Surrounded by lush chestnut forests and spectacular valleys, the village is both peaceful and dramatic. A Medieval church, narrow cobbled streets and fantastic views of the distant high Apennine mountains, it has much to offer for an exciting weekend break or a longer, more leisurely holiday. Parking is easy and private, breakfasts are extensive and room rates are very reasonable. There is a bar a short walk from the house serving food, and we can also provide packed lunches and occasional evening meals.
